Krita is a graphic editor offering great functionality for drawing and processing bitmap images. The advantages over the well-known Photoshop are obvious: the program is free, installed on all known operating systems (in addition to Windows you can download for Mac and Linux).
The workspace is minimalistic but stylish. Nothing superfluous: on the left – a panel with tools, on the right – boxes with palettes, brush profiles, information on layers. The design theme can be changed in the settings, as shown in the screenshot.
Clicking on the New File link (or the standard Win+N key combination), we see several templates – textures, camera templates, the ability to create comics, animations, etc.
Brushes
As in any editor, the principle of brushes – the main tool of an artist – is realized here. A special panel of brush profiles is located on the right, although the box can be moved to any convenient place.
In addition to standard pencils and artist brushes themselves, the program has ready-made solutions for painting. Each brush can be customized to suit your current drawing needs.
Layers
Convenient layer management is another advantage of Krita. The editor offers the creation of regular, group, filter, vector and other layers. Various maxi (filtering, transparency and more) are also provided.
Resources
A special resource manager allows you to use brushes created by other users of the program. This feature significantly expands the possibilities of drawing and image processing. In addition to brushes, additional textures, gradients, etc. are available.
Mirroring
The user can quickly mirror an image vertically or horizontally. It is also possible to mirror rotation using the Multibrush tool. The quick mirroring feature will help you flip the working canvas and look at faults in the construction of the art layout.
OpenGL
OpenGL support gives you the ability to zoom and rotate the canvas more quickly. The clarity of the image does not change even when heavily zoomed.
PSD
The ability to work with PSD pleases users who use two or more graphic editors at the same time.
